Mowing a New Lawn »
Newly planted grass is very delicate and easily damaged versus established grass in a mature lawn.

Should I mulch the lawn area after I put grass seed down?

On large areas, if possible, a seeding mulch may be used if erosion would be considered to be a potential problem. It is not recommended to mulch areas with baled hay or straw as weed seeds and other contaminants would be introduced to the otherwise clean site. The only organic mulches that are recommended would be salt marsh hay or a cellulose/wood fiber seeding mulch. On areas that are small enough to be spot seeded, a cellulose/wood fiber seeding mulch can also be used to aid seeding success.
