My grass turned brown during the dry summer. Will it grow back?Cool season grasses, such as fescue, protect themselves from heat and drought stress by entering a dormant period. During dormancy, grasses stop active growth and shut down certain functions in order to survive intense stress. You would see the grass turn from its healthy green color to a blue green/brown color. The grass becomes very brittle. Once conditions become favorable, the plant resumes growth. There is a possibility that your turf did not survive the hot, dry summer. If the area remains brown well into September and does not green-up after a rainstorm, chances are your lawn did not survive and you will need to re-seed. |
