How can I keep my grass healthy in a shady location?
First, the proper seed must be used to ensure the best grasses are growing in a shady environment.
If possible, prune out some tree branches to try to improve air circulation and to increase the amount of sunlight that reaches the turf.
Raise the mowing height of the grass that is in the shade. The plant needs more leaf surface in order to make its food. Also, the longer the leaf blade, the more healthy the root system of the turfgrass plant. Remember, the grass competes with the surrounding trees for available water; therefore, the grass needs as dense and healthy a root system as possible.
